Pinewood Derby reminder – please pass on to your parents who are not on the email list.
The event will be held at Burns Middle School 615 Brooker Rd. in the gymnasium Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 8am – 12pm
Pre-registration begins Friday, January 29th from 6pm – 8-pm at the entrance to the gymnasium.
Scouts should be in their class ‘A’ uniform.
We are still looking for volunteers the day of the race. If you’re interested in lending a hand, please contact Brian Carr
or (813) 363-9077.
Try to get the car as close to 5.0 ounces as possible without going over. We’ll have drills and tools on hand if you need to remove some material.
Do not modify the wheel base (extending) unless you plan on entering the outlaw race.
Please, no liquid graphite or lubricant on the wheels or axles; it makes a mess out of the track. Only use a dry graphite lube.
Try to pre-register your car the night before in order to alleviate any race delays in the morning. This will also provide you ample time to make any last minute corrections or repair a disqualification.
Abide by the rules posted on the pack website. These are the district rules, so anyone placing 1st – 4th (speed) at the pack level moves on to the district event in March.
Once the car has passed registration you will not be able to do any additional modifications.
Trophies will be awarded to racers who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Tigers, Cubs (includes Wolf and Bears), and Webelos. 12 racers will move on to the District event in March.
A trophy will also be awarded to the tiger, cub and webelo who win a design category. This means up to 18 scouts will move on to compete in the design categories at the District event.
All registered scouts will get a 2010 Pinewood Derby patch.
The Pack will provide hotdogs
This year the pack will hold an outlaw race immediately following the award ceremonies (no trophies will be awarded, only bragging rites).
Open to everyone; this includes scouts, siblings, and parents.
You will still need to abide by size and weight limits, but anything else goes.
Remember, it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun! So come on out and have some fun!
Note from the Blue & Gold Banquet Committee
The theme baskets will be on display during the Pinewood Derby event.
You will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for any of the baskets on display.
You can purchase the tickets at the pre-registration on Friday evening or anytime during the races on Saturday.
